Wadsworth Atheneum

In 1843 the Young Men's Institute moved into the Wadsworth Atheneum. Over the years the Institute would share space with the Atheneum, the Watkinson Library, the Connecticut Historical Society (now the Connecticut Museum of Culture and History), and other organizations. It was here we grew and changed - becoming the Hartford Library Association and ultimately Hartford Public Library. Our space would expand, growing to include the Wadsworth Annex, which held the Children's Room. Eventually it was time for a new, larger space and we moved up the street to 500 Main.
