Ropkins

The Keney Branch of Hartford Public Library opened on High Street in 1929 and moved to Main Street in 1932. It moved farther up Main Street in 1943, where it remained until relocating to the Arsenal School in 1946. A new branch, named after Edgar L. Ropkins, opened at the corner of Avon and Main Streets in 1951. The branch was destroyed by fire in 1969 and reopened a decade later at 1710 Main Street. The Ropkins branch and the SAND Everywhere School Library merged in May 1995. In December 1998 the library moved into a new school/library complex at 1750 Main Street. Following a renovation in 2023, Ropkins now houses the Hartford History Center Annex.
